Bodies of Two War Victims On Way Home

Reburial services for two more Denton war victims. Pvt. Clifford E. Hickmand and T-5 James C. Dial, were being planned today as the War Department announced the arrival of the United States Army Transport Eric G. Gibson, with the remains of 5,205 Americans aboard.

Pvt. Hickman is the son of Mrs. Ethel R. Hickman, 325 Bernard Street and T-5 Dial is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles B. Dial, Denton.

These men were among armed forces dead originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in Italy and North Africa. They are being returned upon instruction of next of kin.

Pvt. Hickman was born July 30, 1925, in Lavaca, Arkansas. He attended Denton Junior High School and was employed by a Denton milling firm prior to his entry into service December 4, 1943.

He received six months basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas and was shipped overseas. He served three months with the 362nd Infantry in Italy and was killed September 24, 1944, during an attack on strong enemy positions in Northern Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart for fatal injuries received in this action.

Survivors include his mother, a wife, Mrs. Leona Hickman Archibald, Idaho, and daughter, Geraldine; and a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Wells, Abilene.

The body will be in the charge of Schmitz Funeral Home and interment will be the Roselawn Memorial Park.
