Milton enlisted in the Union Army on Aug. 24, 1861 as a private in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was discharged Sept. 20, 1864, in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a Corporal.

He died in the United States National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, in Danville, Illinois.

He was a farmer, who came to Illinois with his wife and family in the 1870s.
