Alvah P. Stuck, a life long resident of Otsego, died at his home on Kalamazoo St., on Tuesday, April 26, 1932, aged 83 years and 30 days. He was the third son of a family of thirteen boys and one girl born to Henry D. and Sarah Stuck. Born in Washtenaw county of this state, he came, in infancy, with his parents to the farm one mile north of Pine Creek. He attended school in the Lewis district and the Otsego high school, being one of Supt. P. A. Latta's "boys." March 21, 1875, he was united in marriage with Emily Isadora Carter, and three children came to bless this union, Mrs. Olive Frase and Mrs. Maude Durkee ,of this city, and Melbourne of Kalamazoo, besides six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Of his brothers there are left Charles E. of Kalamazoo, Myron H. of Detroit, James B. of Allegan, George D. of Otsego, and Irvin P. of Brooklyn, N. Y. For over eighteen years he was employed in the chair factory conducted by the late A. B. Stuart and his son, Charles D. For two years he was superintendent of the wood working shop. Later he was associated with his older brother, Chester F. in the shop on Court street where he carried on until failing health compelled him to retire. The death of his beloved wife on Jan. 7. 1931, was a blow from which he never fully recovered, and nearly one year later, Jan. 2, he suffered from a stroke of paralysis. His relatives and friends hoped that he might recover from this but as time passed it was realized that it was not to be. In early life he joined the local F. & A. M. lodge and for over 62 years was an interested worker. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He was a devoted, home loving husband, and fond and kind father, and loyal and firm friend. He watched and took part in the growth of Otsego from the time it was a hamlet of a few homes to the present time, and his death has caused sorrow to a wide circle of friends. The funeral was held from the Pardee funeral home. Interment was in the Mountain Home cemetery.
