Alma was born May 24, 1917, in East Bernard, TX, to John and Amelia Wasicek. She died Friday, June 18, 2010, in Needville, TX. She graduated from Wallis High School. After marrying William Schiller, they farmed their land together, living on the same property their entire lives. By nature Alma was very independent, and she taught her daughters that same trait. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of East Bernard, Dance Club of East Bernard, and Dance Club of Wallis. Through the years she had been involved with the PTA Booster Club. She loved entertaining her friends and family and was especially known for her kolaches, strudel, and sweet rice. Sewing, gardening, and playing dominoes were also hobbies she enjoyed.
Mrs. Schiller was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, William (Bill) Schiller, known to the grandchildren as "TaTa". She was the last surviving sibling, being preceded in death by siblings Walter Wasicek, Lydia Wasicek, Della Mooneyham, Ella Mielch, Frances Tichacek and Emma Sklar.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Koym and husband, Donnie, of Aransas Pass,TX, and Carolyn Pope and husband, Judge Ron Pope, of Richmond, TX. Grandchildren left to cherish the memory of their "Meme", are Todd Koym and wife, Karen, of San Antonio, TX, Chad Barnes and wife, Jenina, of Houston, TX, Bret Barnes and wife, Sarah, of Missouri City, TX, and Chrisi Barnes of Richmond, TX; great grandchildren, Kendall Koym, Kate Koym, Trent Barnes and Korbin Barnes; and sister-in-law, Louise Rejsek; and numerous other relatives.
Serving as Pallbearers will be her nephews, Larry Tichacek, Victor Tichacek, and Adolph Sklar, Jr. and her grandchildren, Todd Koym, Bret Barnes, Chad Barnes and Chrisi Barnes.
