Bettendorf - Graveside services for Ruth M. Van De Sompele, 88, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008, at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Anyone that would like to attend please arrive at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home by 11:15 a.m. Mrs. Van De Sompele died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Bettendorf Health Center.

Ruth Vaughn was born on August 25, 1920, in Walhalla, North Dakota, a daughter of John R. and Helen (Puschinsky) Vaughn. She was united in marriage to John Van De Sompele on September 24, 1949, in Rock Island. He preceded Ruth in death on December 24, 1980.

She was primarily a homemaker during her lifetime taking care of her family. She enjoyed playing bingo and fish, and loved to enjoy the "occasional" beer. She was member of the Eastern Star, East End Club, and the Vikings Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Cherie (Wayne) Johnson, Geneseo, lll.; grandchildren, Amber (Steve) Hershman, James Moore, Summerfield, Fla., John (Michael) Moore, DeCatur, Ill.; Jason (Deann) Moore, Davenport; and several loving great-grandchildren.
