PIONEER MOTHER PASSES AWAY
Another of the remnant of the early pioneers of this county last passing of grandma Armentrout another "mother in Israel" went to meet her Lord and hear the welcome plaudit "well done, come up higher."
Mrs. Mary Ann Armentrout was born in the old state of North Carolina March 11, 1838. Died near Harkeyville Monday night, July 25, 1921, at the ripe old age of 83 years, 4 months and 15 days. In early childhood she moved with her parents to the state of Arkansas and later came to Texas and San Saba county. May 21, 1857 she was married to Geo. P. Armentrout at San Saba and to this union were born 9 children, 7 boys and 2 girls, seven of whom are surviving. The children are W. G. Armentrout of Eldorado, Jno., Amos, Levi and Riley Armentrout of this county, R. O. armentrout of Angleton, and Mrs. T. K. Dismukes of the Harkeyville community. Besides these children there are 36 grand-children and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased was converted more than 40 years ago and united with the Methodist Church and lived a christian life. She was of the frontier type, charitable, generous and ever ready to lend a helphing hand. Her life was an open book; she loved as she was loved by her friends and neighbors. She was gentle of spirit and kind to a marked degree. She had been a sufferer for some 60 days when death relieved her and opened up the gates to the heavenly Jerusalem. The body was buried in the Wallace cemetery, Rev. H. K. Agee, her pastor, conducting the funeral service.
