OBITUARY

Afton Orson (A. O.) DAVENPORT, 92, passed away quietly at his home in Caldwell, Idaho on July 2, 1998. He was born April 15, 1906 in Parker, Idaho, the first of eight children born to Orson Sperry and Mary Mae Rhodehouse DAVENPORT. He married LaPreal JACOBS, his eternal companion of Sugar City, Idaho, on June 6, 1935 and they recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

He settled in Caldwell in 1950 where he owned and operated the Surge Dairy Equipment dealership and in the mid 60s he started the Davenport Real Estate Agency where he specialized in the sale of farm properties.

He is survived by his wife, LaPreal; his four children, Dawna and Leonard HOLST of Caldwell. Kent and SaneRae DAVENPORT of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lynn and Cindy DAVENPORT of Nampa and Jean and Hal HODGES of Highland, Utah, as well as Carolyn MONTERTH of Boise. He has 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, with more arriving very soon.

He was a very intelligent, self-educated man who, because of family responsibilities, had only three days of formal education in the eighth grade. He was always searching for knowledge and loved the scriptures, poetry, good humor and beautiful music.

Besides his father and mother and several brothers and sisters, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. DAVENPORT, who died as an infant.

A memorial service will be held on July 6, 1998 at 10 a.m. in the Caldwell LDS Stake Center at 3015 S. Kimball Ave. Internment will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens on Karcher Road between Nampa and Caldwell. Arrangements are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. There will be no public viewing.

He was a High Priest and life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions throughout his long life and blessed the lives of many less fortunate people with his compassion and generosity. As a young man he served a full-time proselyting mission for the church in the Central States Mission. He was the patriarch of a large extended family.

Contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints World Mission Fund.
