Anna Catherine Dirks was born in Oldorf, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, Germany, on Sept. 23, 1866, to Carl Hajen Dirks and Tomke Ihnken.

She came to the United States around 1884, where she initially resided with her uncle and aunt Gerhard and Ulrike Dirks in Whiteside County, Illinois.

She married John Wilhelm Frerichs on Aug. 26, 1886, in Sterling, IL. They moved to Clinton, IA in 1898.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.

The couple had six children: Carl, Minnie, Marie, Hattie, Theodore, and Meta.

Anna died on May 1, 1944, after a brief illness following several months of failing health following the death of her husband that February.
