Mrs. Chas E. Jenkins, a resident of Villisca for nearly half a century, died Monday morning at 2:30 o’clock after illness of several weeks.
Helen Eunice Burnham was born in Fairfax, Vermont on May 21, 1946. She came to Villisca in 1877 and was engaged in the millinery business here for many years. She was the mother of three sons by her first marriage. They are John B. Meyers, Bingham Canyon, Utah, Jas. T. Meyers, Norfolk, Nebraska; Chas A. Meyers, San Francisco, California. Besides her three sons, she leaves her husband Chas. E. Jenkins, one brother, G. S. Burnham and one sister, Mrs. C. C. Waterman of Villisca.
Early in life Mrs. Jenkins united with the Episcopalian Church in St. Albans Vermont and upon her removal to Villisca she united with the Methodist Church.
The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with Rev. J. L. Boyd of Villisca and Rev. E. S. Menoher of Corning in charge of the service. The pall bearers were Jas. and John Dunn, Arlie, Clifford, and Claude Burnham, and Lyman Meyers and the singing was by Mrs. J. V. Wynn and Miss Fannie Seeley. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery.
Those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Meyers, Norfolk, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Meyers of Clarinda; Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Burnham and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Burnham of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
