Elizabeth Ann (Sims) (Bruce) Burnham was the great great aunt of this writer, Blytha (Dennis) Ellis. Her sister, Mary Ellen (Sims) Wilson, was my great grandmother.

Elizabeth went by her middle name, Ann. She was known to my family as Aunt Ann.

Ann was the daughter of Alfred Alford Sims (1819-1906) who was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, and died in Macon County, Missouri; and Rachel (Maltbie) Sims (1835-1919) who was born in Montgomery County, Indiana, and died in Macon County, Missouri.

Ann was the oldest of six children. Her siblings were:

Mary Ellen (Sims) Wilson 1862 – 1941
Sarah Cathrine (Sims) Burch 1865 – 1920
Matilda Sims 1867 – 1886
Thomas Taylor "Tommy" Sims 1869 – 1944
Lillie Dale (Sims) Epperson 1873 – 1931

In 1884 in Macon County, Missouri, Ann married Jacob N. Bruce. They had no biological children but adopted a daughter and raised a foster son:

Minnie M. (Bruce) Bonnell 1896-1971
Lester Rose 1903-1974

Jacob Bruce died on December 31, 1909 and was buried at LaPlata Cemetery.

In about 1920, in Macon County, Missouri, Ann married twice-widowed John Wright Burnham. They had no children of their own, but John had 8 grown children from his first marriage.

Ann died in March of 1943 in Hannibal, Missouri, at the home of her daughter Minnie, but was returned to Macon County for burial beside her first husband, Jacob Bruce, at LaPlata Cemetery. John Burnham died in July of 1943 and was buried at the Bunce Cemetery in Macon County, by his first wife.

Ann had a Bible which had been given to her by her mother Rachel (Maltbie) Sims. The Bible belonged to Rachel's father, Warren Maltbie, and had been given to him by his father, Ammi Maltbie in 1829. This information is written inside this Bible (see photo). Since Ann did not have any children by blood, before she died, she gave the Bible to her great niece, LuVella (Thurman) Dennis who was in the Maltbie direct blood line. LuVella was the granddaughter of Mary Ann (Sims) Wilson, sister of Aunt Ann. After LuVella's death, this treasured Bible came into the possession of her only child, this writer, Blytha (Dennis) Ellis.
