Husband of Martha Bishop Wheeler

Brevard - George Watson Wheeler, Jr. 81, died Friday, November 18, 2010 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital.

A native of Henderson County, he was the son of the late George Watson Wheeler and Mary Weddington Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Wheeler

Mr. Wheeler was a 1949 graduate of Christ School and he attended Brevard College. He was a Life Member of Brevard Elks Lodge #1768 where he was a Past Exalted Ruler and was currently serving as Esquire. He was a past District Deputy and Past State President of the NC State Elks Association. He retired from Ecusta Corp. and was a member of the Brevard-Davidison River Presbyterian Church. Mr. Wheeler was a member of the NC Wing of the Civil Air Patrol for many years and was a former coach of the Mite and Midget football teams of the Transylvania Little League Football Association.

Survivors include, his wife, Martha Bishop Wheeler; son, David Watson
Wheeler of Saluda, NC; sisters, Bette Wheeler Mulley and Martha Belle Wheeler Fray of Green Valley, Arizona; grandchildren, Rod Flynn and wife Christina, Ryan Wheeler and wife Ashley and Jessica Whited and husband Nate; great-grandchildren, William and Archer Flynn, Jeshua and Brawley Whited and David and John Wheeler.

The memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday in the Chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Brevard Elks Lodge #1768.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christ School Class if 1949 Library Fund, 500 Christ School Road, Arden, NC 28704 or to the Elks National Fountation, 2750 Lakeview Ave., Chicago, Il. 60614
