World War II Veteran Merchant Marines - 1945 and U.S. Army 1946-1947.

Ralph Otto Stugart, 82, formerly of 24 N. Washington St., Muncy, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Manor Care North in Williamsport, where he resided the past 1 1/2 years.


Born Nov. 16, 1926, in Hughesville, he was a son of the late Otto and Edna (Hill) Stugart.


His wife of 50 years, the former Betty Reuther, died Oct. 1, 2001.


Ralph was a 1944 graduate of Hughesville High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines in 1945 and then in the U.S. Army during 1946 and 1947.


Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jane E. and Gerald Otterbein of Muncy; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jay and Peggy Stugart and Leon and Judy Stugart, all of Hughesville, and Harold and Janet Stugart of Lancaster; one sister, Betty Montgomery of Muncy; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.


In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Alan, Paul and Donald.
