Asa L."Rocky" Rockwell,81,died July 31,2008, with his wife at his side, at his home. He was born Dec. 14,1926, in Merrill, the son of Charles and Abbie (Hughes) Rockwell. Rocky served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and his wife attended Church of the Good Shepherd, Houlton, and he was a member of AA. He enjoyed spending time with his wife,Vera, who was always beautiful in his eyes. His great passion was teasing and playing with children of all ages. Among other jobs,he worked in the woods for many years. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vera (Tingley) Rockwell of Oakfield,his children,Mable and Delmont Noyes Jr., Melanie and Raymond Carmichael, and Judy Durost, stepchildren, Barbara White, Stephen and Pam Tucker,Patsy and Herb Splan, Virgil and Luanne Tucker,Dorothia Tucker and her friend, Tim Fluck,David Tucker, Jim and Shelly Oakes, and Nancy Petra. He leaves behind many loving granchildren, stepgrandchildren,great-grandchildren,great-stepgrand-children and many more too countless to name, one brother,Boyd Rockwell of Oakfield, one sister, Lillian Sanders of Linneus, many nieces and nephews. Asa was predeceased by his parents; his wife Ruth Rockwell; son, Winton A. Rockwell; granddaughter,Jenna Harris; and siblings, George, Pearl, Beryl, and Mable. Friends may call 7-9 pm. Monday Aug.4,at Bethel Penecostal Church, Oakfield, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday with Pastors Sterling Lawrence and Leslie Nesin officiating. Interment will be at Merrill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton,ME 04730.
