Biography of Joe Olguin Rodriguez, Sr.

Joe Olguin Rodriguez, Sr., was born in Pleasanton, Tx on Nov 22nd, 1929. His parents were Geronimo and Adela (Olguin) Rodriguez. Joe was the youngest of 14 children. In 1950, he joined the U.S. Army as a Coastal Artilleryman rising to the rank of Sergeant. He served at Fort Dix, NJ and Fort Hamilton, NY. While stationed at Fort Dix, NJ, he met Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann Foulke of Yardley, Pa.. They quickly fell in love and were married in March 1952. They had four children; Joe Jr., Jerome (Jerry), Sandra, and Gwen (Wendy).

In 1953, Joe completed his Army service and returned to San Antonio, TX for a short time working for the US Postal Service. They then moved to Morrisville, PA and he began working for US Steel becoming a foreman. In 1962, Joe moved his family back to San Antonio and started working at the Robert B. Green Hospital as a medical equipment repairman. He bought a house at 1311 Cullin St where he raised his four children. He applied for, and was accepted in a Government civilian position at Wilford Hall Air Force Hospital, Lackland AFB, and later transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

In 1981, his wife of 29 years, Betsy died at the age of 51. He buried his wife Elizabeth with his family in Pleasanton, Tx. In 1982 he married Ingrid and she took care of him till his death in May 2005. Ingrid had one daughter, Diana Finley, who Joe took on as his own. In his later years he fought a hard battle with Parkinson's disease, after 15 years, he went home, and was finally able to rest.

Joe was a wonderful husband and father. He loved his children and led them with a gentle, compassionate heart. He had a great sense of humor and loved people. He led by example and was always optimistic about the future. He left a lasting legacy in his children and grandchildren. He is most surely missed.
