Elisha Tyler enlisted on July 11, 1862 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a Bugler for Company A, Alston's Battalion, South Carolina Artillery. Elisha was wounded around August of 1863. This unit was also known as the South Carolina Siege Train. It was organized with three companies as light artillery. Company D was assigned later in 1862. Bridges' Louisiana Artillery Battery was merged into Company D in December 1864. The unit was surrendered by General Joseph E. Johnston at Durham Station, Orange County, North Carolina on April 26, 1865.
