She received her degree from Franklin College in Franklin, IN, and became a singer, composer and educator in Indiana, and Chicago, IL. She was Chairman of the Department of Music at Indiana State. In 1901 she published the 'Standard Collection of School Sings'. She was married to the noted illustrator and artist, Howard Rolland Livingstone. Beginning in the 1930s, they lived in Manhattan. Lella and Rolland are interred in Ferncliff Cemetery and Mausoleum.
