The son of John B. and Mary Ann Clark and the husband of Adaline M.Webster Clark, whom he married on feb 12, 1857, in Fulton Twp., Lancaster County. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Peach Bottom Twp., York County.

He stood 5' 8" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran,He was drafted in York County October 25, 1862, mustered into federal service at York November 7 as a private with Co. H, 166th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in York. He was also drafted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle November 26, 1864, as a private with Co. D, 88th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 30, 1865.
