Olive Arlene Sones, 99, passed away at 3:15 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Larry Whitmoyer of Millville.

She was born July 19, 1910, in Moreland Twp., Lycoming Co., a daughter of the late Samuel and Phoebe (Lowe) Gardner. February 7, 1927, she married William W. Sones, who passed away January 28, 1971.

She was a homemaker and also enjoyed making quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. She liked the outdoors and mowing the lawn on her Cub Cadet tractor until the age of 94.

Olive was a member of the Radiant Light Assembly of God Church, Muncy. In her earlier years, she taught Sunday School and was the Christmas play program director. She and her husband grew potatoes for Wise in Berwick and raised tomatoes for several years for Chef-Boy-Ardee in Milton. They won numerous awards for their high crop production.

She was the last of her immediate family. Two daughters survive Olive, Carol Shetler, Turbotville and Janet (Larry) Whitmoyer, Millville; several grandchildren, Penelope Shetler, Krystna Yarish, Todd (Annette), Jeffrey (Betsy), Brett (Jodie) and Mark (Shannon) Gardner; great-grandchildren, Lance and Jasmine Yarish, Corey (Jessica), Krysta and Alyssa Whitmoyer, Kayla (Zachary) Farr, a great-great-grandson, Curtis Whitmoyer and several nieces and nephews. She especially looked forward to receiving many cards, letters and photos from a special niece, Betty Jean Wilkins of Canton, OH.

In addition to her husband of 44 years, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Gardner in 1989; two sons-in-law, Charles Sholtis and Owen Gardner, a sister, Adda Bartlow and four brothers, Brady, Harvey, Earl and Willis Gardner.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville by Pastor Timothy Halbig. The interment will be in the Muncy Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
