Roy Paul (Pete) Bush, 87, of Millstone died May 23, 2002, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born at St. Clara, Doddridge County. He was a son of the late David Roy and Hortense Garrett Bush. He was a 1933 graduate of Troy High School and a 1952 graduate of Glenville State College. He received his master's degree from West Virginia University in 1954. Early in life he worked in the Baltimore shipyards.
He was a former Calhoun County elementary school teacher with 35 years service and had served as a substitute teacher for 12 years following his retirement in 1972. He began his teaching career in one-room schools and later served as principal of the Arnoldsburg Elementary School for 19 years. He was a former employee of the Orders Construction Co. and had been in the Christmas tree business at Millstone since 1950.
He was a member of Albert's Chapel United Methodist Church at Sand Ridge. He had served as a member of the board of directors of the Calhoun County Committee on Aging. He was vice chairman of the Arnoldsburg Community Action Association and was one of the founders of the Molasses Festival at Arnoldsburg. He was an avid coon hunter and outdoorsman.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Verda Griffin Bush; one sister, Ruby Skidmore of Weston and one half sister, Patty Mitchell of Millstone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Russell Bush; and three sisters, Eula Short, his twin sister, Pauline Butcher, and Lucille Vannoy.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg. The Rev. Rick Swearigen will officiate. Interment will be in the Sand Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m., Saturday and one hour prior to services Sunday.
