Union, Feb 10. - Again, on Feb 1, has the grim visitor, Death, the equalizer of all men, stolen into the home of our friend and neighbor and claimed for its victim a dear old father, Mr Wm H Smith. Mr Smith was born July 25, 1845. He was only 15 years old when the civil war began and though a mere boy rendered valuable service in the making of saltpetre, etc. At the age of 30 he married Miss Josephine Ballard to whom four children Nora, Amanda, Charlotte and Randolph were born. All preceded him to the grave save Nora, who married C S Miller and still lives at the home place. He is survived by three brothers, Messrs J B Smith of Assurance, Alexander of Missouri and H S Smith of Richmond, Va; also by two sisters, Mrs Lewis and Mrs George Coalter, of Lindside, this county.
