Joan Blaine Sparks

Joan Carolyn Blaine Sparks was born on June 16, 1942 in the Edgefield community of Attala County, Mississippi. She lost her battle with leukemia on November 16, 2010, at Centennial Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Visitaion will be from Saturday, November 20 from 12-1:30 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home chapel with burial in Edgefield Cemetery.

She is reunited in death with her parents, Robert Gentry Blaine and Effie Mae Jennings Blaine as well as her brothers, Jimmy Dean, Clarence Barnes, Arlie Clifton, Hubert Earl, and Robert Jr. Blaine.

She is mourned by her spouse, D. Paul Sparks Sr., their son D. Paul Sparks Jr., his wife Lacy, and their sons Butler, Will, and Lawton Sparks; as well as their daughter Amanda Sparks-Bushnell, her husband Justin, and their children Blaine Paul and Mary-Jennings Bushnell. Sharing in grief are her remaining siblings: Edna Blaine Norris, Kitty Sue Blaine Simmons, Shirley Blaine Moody, and Billy Joe Blaine.

In her 68 years, Mrs. Sparks was of great support to her husband throughout his 50 years of being a minister for the Church of Christ. She also taught kindergarten in Durant, Mississippi, and was a Sears catalog sales merchant. In her later years, Mrs. Sparks attended Mississippi Delta Junior College, receiving an Associates Degree. Joan was a great lover of the outdoors, her family and church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her loss is deeply felt.

The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The family also wishes to thank the hard working men and women that provided such excellent care in her battle with leukemia.
