Mrs. Laura Belle Steele, 83, widow of William W. Steele, and a life-long and beloved resident of the Park View community, died at two o'clock Saturday morning at her home in Park View.

Mrs. Steele suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on July 11. 1955, and had been bedfast since that time. She suffered a third attack on Thursday morning and little hope had been held for her recovery for the past several days.

A daughter of the late Isaac Deavers and Amanda Messick Dea¬vers, she was born on Oct. 21, 1872, near Park View and spent practically her entire life in this community. On Dec. 15, 1892, she married William W. Steele, a prominent West Rockingham resident and farmer. Mr. Steele preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1915.

Mrs. Steele was a devoted mother and an industrious person who was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a devout Christian and was a faithful and lifelong member of the Cook's Creek Presbyterian Church. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by 11 children. Mrs. Julia F. Bacon, Miss Treva A. Steele, Miss Pauline Steele, Mrs. Claude (Ruth) Berry. Miss Reba Steele. Mrs. Lillian Brown, Miss Margie B. Steele, Telford I. Steele and Clarence L. Steele, all of the Park View community; Mrs. Galen (Emma) Showalter of Dale Enterrise; and Mrs. Robert (Vada) Deputy of Phoenix, Md.

She also leaves 11 grandchildren, Mrs. Virginia Ann Brown Wampler, Donald Steele, Marie Steele, Mac Showalter, Betty Showalter, Phyllis Showalter, Wendell Steele, Elaine Steele, Janet Kay Steele, Linda Steele and John Robert Deputy. Two half-sisters, Mrs. Barbara Ritchie of Harrisonburg and Miss Polly Deavers of Timberville; and one half-brother, D. R. Deavers, of Singers Glen, also survive.

She was preceded in death by two children, Marshall and Susie, and several half-sisters and half-brothers.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at two o'clock from the Cook's Creek Presbyterian Church with her pastor, the Rev. H. G. Allen, in charge of the services, assisted by Dr. James A. Swain. Burial will be in the adjacent cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John H. Rolston, Mike S. Liskey, Guy W. Long, Guy J. Heatwole, Russell Alders, Boyd Cline, Howard Burkholder and C. William Frank.
The body will rest at the Lindsey funeral home until 12:15 this afternoon when it will be taken to the church to lie in state from one o'clock until the hour of the services. The relatives will meet at Mrs. Steele's late home this afternoon at 1:35 where a brief service will be held prior to leaving for the church. The pallbearers have been requested to meet at the church at 1:45.
