Tax Collector and Well Known Citizen Leaves Widow and Eleven Children
Funeral Sunday Morning
William W. Steele, a collector of taxes for County Treasurer P. W. Reheard, died at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home near Assembly Park a short distances north of Harrisonburg. He had been confined to his home for several weeks but had been in failing health for sometime.
Mr. Steele was in his forty-fifth year. He was a lifelong resident of Rockingham and had a wide circle of friend by whom he was highly respected. He had been a member of the United Brethern Chuch for several years.
Surviving Mr. Steele besides his wife, who was Miss Laura Deavers, are eleven children, Julia, Treva, Pauline, Alfred, Bruce, Reba, Willie, Margie, Clarence and Sadie Steele all at home. He also leaves four brothers, Jesse D. and B. J. Steele of near Harrisonburg, Price Steele, of Linville; T. Q. Steele of Buffalo, N. Y. and one sister, Mrs. J. A. Neff of near Harrisonburg.
The funeral be held at 11 o'clock Sunday morning from Cook's Creek Presbyerian Church at New Erection. Services will be conducted by Rev. G. K. Little, assisted by Rev. H. A. Young. Interment will be in the cemetery near the church.
