John Henry Gaede, a resident of West Salem for more than 60 years, passed away at his home on Monday morning at 2:30, aged 68 years, 2 months and 15 days.
The body was laid to rest at the Moravian cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, following a funeral service at the Moravian church, conducted by the Rev. Albert P. Haupert.
The deceased was born on March 11, 1851 at Sulpke, Prussia, Germany. He came to this country with his parents when he was eight years of age, settling at West Salem. On October 8, the Rev. James Haman united him in marriage with Rosina Clodfelter, the surviving widow. Six years later he became a member of the Moravian church, in which fellowship he remained until 1898. His health became impaired eight years ago, when he was attacked by a paralytic stroke. A second stroke followed a few years later. During the last three weeks he was confined to his bed in a helpless condition. An infant daughter died in infancy. Four sons and one daughter survive, namely, Otto W., Herman, Dora, wife of Gustave E. Koertge, Victor and Albert, all of West Salem, besides two sisters and one brother. The grandchildren number 18 the great grandchildren 2.
