Mary Lance was born on January 3, 1847 in Lafayette Township, Medina County, Ohio, to John Lance and Sarah Lee. She married Abraham Dobson, her 2nd cousin (through shared great-grandparents, Christopher Lance & Sarah Johnson), on December 18, 1866. Together they had three children: Franklin D. F., Alta, and Fred E. Mary's husband preceded her in death, by four years.
In the 1900 US Census, for Wellington, Lorain County, Ohio, Mary and Abe were living next door to her daughter, Alta Irwin and family. Also, Mary had given birth to 4 children total, but only 3 were still living in 1900.
