GEORGE WAS A VICTIM OF HIS FRIENDLY NATURE

Over 300 people attended graveside services Friday for Scott George, the young Exeter man who was murdered and dumped into an abandoned mine shaft in Calaveras County.

George was born in Visalia, but raised in this small farming community. He had a passion for life and loved water skiing and Western line dancing. But mostly he loved people.

That may have cost him his life.

Longtime friend Vincent Arbizo said George was with Robert James Acremant, the man suspected of killing him, to help him meet friends.

According to Arbizo, George's father, Art, was dating Acremant's mother, Darlene, for a while and she asked Scott George to introduce her son to "people his own age."

Acremant lost his job last summer and moved to Visalia to live with his mother about Sept. 1. George was last seen on the evening of Oct. 3 at a downtown Visalia restaurant with Acremant.

"Scott's dad bought a boat and they took Acremant with them up to the lake skiing," Arbizo said. "Scott was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone."

On the night he died, George had just broken up with his fiancee. According to Acremant's brother Ken, "Scott was whining in his beer all night about breaking up with his girl."

In mid-November, after being questioned by police on three separate occasions about George's disappearance, Acremant and his mother packed their belongings into a rented van and moved to Medford, Ore. About Dec. 1, he reportedly murdered two women after a robbery attempt went sour.

On Dec. 13, he was back in Visalia with the police close on his heels. After another robbery attempt failed, he fled town and was later captured in a Stockton motel after his mother tipped police on where to find him.

Acremant has admitted killing George "in a fit of rage."

Arbizo said George's friends and family are just glad the ordeal is finally over. "We've been looking and worrying and wondering and not knowing since Oct. 3. Now we're finally able to put him to rest."
