Member of Andover Militia. Fought at Lexington. Then enlisted as Private in Army of the Revolutionary War. Fought in Battle of Bunker Hill. Member of Washington's "Headquarter's Guards", 1776.

Married (1) Ruth Church on June 15, 1777 at Bradford, Mass.; (2) Sarah Davidson (Dole) on October 14, 1819 at Salem, Mass.
