Mrs. Annie Cook 1948 Bridgewater Bulletin

The sudden passing of one of New Canada's highly respected citizens, Mrs. Annie Cook, will be learned with regret by a wide circle of friends and relatives. Although not in good health for some years, she was not confined to her bed but had been very active in her home until within about an hour previous to her death when she was suddenly taken ill and passed away peacefully. Had she lived until Tuesday, she would have been 81 years ofage. Preparations had been made for a birthday anniversary on Sunday, the day of her death. Mrs. Cook was born at Branch LaHave, a daughter of the late Thomas and Maria Conrad. She was the last surviving member of her family. Having been left motherless at the age of three weeks, she was given a home and brought up by the late Mr. and Mrs. William Wagner, Sr. In November, 1887, she was married to Samuel Cook who predeceased her 17 years ago. She was a member of the United Baptist church at New Canada and attended services whenever possible. She was an active member of the W.M.S. She was a kind and affectionate mother and a neighbour who welcomed all who visited her with a friendly smile. Of late years her favourite pastime was knitting which she was able to do until the very last days. She leaves to mourn their loss, three daughters and two sons, May, Mrs. Harold Wentzell, Upper Branch; Winnie, Mrs. Chas. Ritcey, Stanley Section; Mildred, Mrs. Eldred Ramey, New Germany; Harris, with whom she resided at New Canada; Fred, at Concord, Mass. An infant son and daughter predeceased her years ago. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.E. Huestis, pastor of Mahone Bay Baptist Church, who spoke very comfortingly to the bereaved ones. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery, New Canada. Hymns sung were "Good Night and Good Morning," "My Faith Looks Up to Thee," and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were Evert Sarty, Willard, Earl and Farish MacKay. The large congregation and the beautiful floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.

NOTE: From Scott Teal: "Her father was Thomas Conrad on May 22, 1822 at Upper LaHave. Thomas' father was Johann Nicolaus Conrad 1780." "Anna Maria Conrad born at Lower Branch. Her mother was Maria Barbara Weihnacht born Feb 1, 1827 Upper LaHave, died at Lower Branch."
