Charles Lee Wharton, 79, of 5041 Gordon Ave. NW, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, in Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center following a long illness. Private graveside services will be held Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Dave Soldner, Amenity Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Bobby Lee Wharton of Cedar Rapids and John Wharton and wife Pamela of Keystone; and two grandsons, Joshua and Matthew.
His parents preceded him in death.
Charles was born June 14, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, to Charles W. and Brittomart Tscheope Wharton. He married Elizabeth Ann Kurzendorfer on May 8, 1954, in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
Charles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a custodian for the Cedar Rapids School District for 21 years.
