STEELE, KAY IRENE LANGFORD, 83, entered into heavenly peace and rest on Monday, February 15, 2021 in the loving arms of her daughter Penny in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Kay was born in Sweetwater, Tennessee and lived most of her life in Madisonville, Tennessee. She was a member of Hopewell Springs Baptist Church. She retired from Vonore Elementary School after many years of service. She loved and cared about the students she was given the opportunity to work with.
Kay was a strong woman of faith, a loving dedicated wife and mother, grandmother, a loving sister, a friend to all. She loved to encourage and lift others up. She always saw the best in everyone. Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny Steele Crocker and Mark Crocker, of Jonesborough, TN; Grandchildren, James (Amy) Herington, Noah (Kaysi) Huskey, of Jonesborough, Elijah (Chanel) Herington, of Ontario Canada, Mariah (Nathan) Hsaio, of Dallas, Texas, 5 great-grandchildren, James Tobias, Miles Paul, and Laurel Hope Herington, Aiden Lane and Owen Steele Hsaio; Extended family and lifelong friend, Charles Arthur Hitson, of Sweetwater; brother and sister-in-law, James (Jack) and Judy Hitson, of Brentwood, TN; Sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Glenn Sledge, of Sweetwater; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sandi Boone, Bobby and Yvonne Steele, Tom and Leslie Steele, all of Madisonville, Carolyn Hitson and Joyce Conrad, of Sweetwater, Gloria Leslie, of Madisonville, Joann Hester, of Savannah, GA, Doris Hixson of Florida; special friends she held dear, JD and Anna Lee Jones, Nadene Kyle, Marsha Standridge; numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Kay is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 plus years, James Roscoe Steele; 2 beautiful daughters, Robin Elaine Steele and Donna Kay Steele Herington; mother, Mamie Chestine Stevenson Hitson; father, John Jessie Langford; step-father, Howard Hitson; sisters, Jessie Mae Langford Miller; Idea Louise Hitson; brothers, Virgil Lee Hitson, Samuel Lafette Hitson, John Franklin Hitson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Verbal and Annie Mae Steele; sisters-in-law, Ruth Watson, Ruby Bledsoe, Vina Sue Kirkland, Joyce Steele; brothers-in-law, Ross Steele, George (Dick) Miller, Ronnie (Red) McCulloch, Kenneth True, Jim Kirkland and Sam Boone; special niece and nephew, Misty Kirkland Cook and Marty Kirkland.
Graveside service and interment 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Hopewell Springs Cemetery, Rev. Doug Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends 2:30- 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville
