Joseph E. Gladysz of 1107 Carroll Lane, Hermitage, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in his residence
following a brief illness. He was 81.

Mr. Gladysz was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Farrell, a son
of John and Katherine Jacek Gladysz. A lifelong area resident, he was a 1942 alumnus of Farrell High School.
Following his graduation, he served with the U.S. Army in
World War II in the European theater with the 44th Division
of the 71st Infantry Regiment Anti-Tank Company. A decorated veteran, he was a prisonerof- war (POW) in Germany from November of 1944 through April of 1945. He was a recipient of many medals including the Purple Heart, European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Joe retired in the 1980s from
Flower Lumber Co., Sharon, and General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant, working simultaneously with both companies for many years. As a lifelong member of St. Adalbert's Church in Farrell, he
belonged to the Men's Club and volunteered for many years
at the church cemetery, Holy Cross Cemetery in Hermitage.
He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
5286, Farrell. Joe was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed photography.

His wife, the former Helen Lucas, whom he married on
May 10, 1947, passed away on Feb. 2, 1999.

He is survived by: a daughter, JoAnne Gladysz, at home;
two sons, Joseph Gladysz and his wife Sue, Niles, Ohio; and
James Gladysz, Hermitage; three grandchildren, Amber
and Justin Gladysz, Niles; and Jessica Gladysz, Youngstown;
one brother, Edward Gladysz and his wife Lois, Farrell; two
sisters, Stella Kohut, New Jersey; and Marie Smock, Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by all who knew him including his dog,
Abby.

Besides his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his parents
and an infant sister. Memorial contributions may
be made to St. Adalbert's Church, 1035 Fruit Ave., Farrell
16121; or Sharon Regional Health System's Hospice Home
Care, 663 E. State St., Sharon 16146.
