MINER KILLED BY A ROCK FALL THIS AFTERNOON

William Shilling Is Crushed In Big Creek No. 3.

William Shilling, of 1617 North Don street, was killed by the fall of rock this afternoon about 2 o'clock in Mine No. 3, of the Big Creek Coal Company. He lived only about ten minutes after the other miners, who were working near, got him out from under the rock.

Mr. Shilling was working in the room in company with another miner. The falling rock caught only the one man and he was still breathing when fellow miners got him to the bottom. He did not regain consciousness, but died within ten minutes after he was pulled out.

The Shilling family has been living in Kirksville for the past four years. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Clara Shilling, a brother in Colorado and several sisters.

TO HOLD INQUEST INTO DEATH OF WM. SHILLING

The funeral arrangements for William Shilling, of 1617 North Don street, who was killed by a fall of rock in Mine No. 3 of the Big Creek Coal Company Friday afternoon, have not been made.

The coroner's inquest will be held this morning at 8:30 o'clock.

Mr. Shilling was working with another miner, John Salaskis of 424 West Missouri, in a room of the mine when there was a fall of rock which caught Mr. Shilling.
