Archibald fought in the battle of Pinkie on 10 Sep 1547, where he commanded a group of Highlanders. In 1548 he fought in the Siege of Haddington. He was suspected by King James V and his privy council of having caused disturbances in the Scottish Isles. He was brought in front of the king and eventually imprisoned, but later released and regained all of his positions after James died. After 1548 the gold of the English won him over and he joined the English side.
