He was born in Bucyrus, Ohio on November 30, 1946 to Glen Elwood Gardner, Sr., and Linda Bernice Hetrick Gardner. His family moved to Utah when he was ten. He graduated from Bingham High School in 1965 and attended the University of Utah.
He married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Jean Crum, on March 8, 1969 in Sunnyvale, California. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 31, 1970.
They have two children, Adrienne (Darrin) Sumsion and Brian (Rebecca) Gardner. Seven grandchildren: Quincy Gardner, Mitchell Gardner, Veronica Sumsion, Erik Sumsion, Nicole Gardner, Vanessa Sumsion, and Simon Gardner. His grandchildren described him as "ten feet tall and bulletproof."
He was the rock solid foundation of his family. He has two sisters, Fern (Jim) VanCamp, Teri (Gary) Koden, and a brother, Dale (Velna) Gardner, all of Washington State. Step-sisters: Elaine (Jerry) Liddell, and Sharon Smith. Preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Arkin Smith Gardner.
He was employed by Boeing Aircraft Company in Everett, Washington, helping to build the first Boeing 747s. Later he returned to Utah to complete an apprenticeship in the Carpenters Union. He graduated from Salt Lake Community College with an AAS in Carpentry.
He left his creative mark on Utah as a journeyman carpenter and general contractor, working on the ZCMI Center, Beneficial Tower, Abravanel Hall, the Park City Transit Center, and numerous luxury homes in Park City and Deer Valley. He served honorably in the US Army Reserve and Utah National Guard.
He was a high priest in the LDS Church and served in numerous callings including executive secretary to the bishop, financial clerk, teachers quorum leader, counselor in the Sunday school and elders quorum presidencies. He loved the outdoors. Fishing, waterskiing, boating, hiking were favorite activities. Most of all he loved his family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah, at 2:00 p.m. with a prior viewing at 12:30 p.m. and interment to follow the services.
