MARION HENRIE'S SON KILLED IN ACCIDENT

Earl Henrie, the sixteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Henrie of Delta was injured in an accident late Saturday afternoon and died forty minutes later. Earl had left Delta with a party of thirty-eight boys, the Future Farmers of America, on August 21 and they were touring the parks. The party had gone through the Yellowstone Park and the Grand Teton Park and were on their way over the Teton Pass intending to go by way of Swan Valley and Bear Lake to Logan to attend the convention there of the Future Farmers. The accident occurred between Victor, Idaho and Jackson, Wyoming on the Teton Pass. The boys were making the trip in a large Chevrolet truck with Eldro Jeffrey driving. Dewane Jensen, vocational agricultural teacher from the Delta High, had charge of the expedition. In coming down the pass, in order to negotiate the grade, the road makes a number of S curves. The truck was having heavy going in low gear and a number of the boys got off and were making their way down by foot, cutting across the curves as the truck came down the road. Earl and a companion Earl Gillies, had walked across one S curve and got onto the road again to climb on to the truck when the accident occurred. Earl Gillies made the truck safely but Earl Henrie slipped or lost his hold and fell under the truck. The truck was traveling at a very low rate of speed not to exceed six miles an hour as some boys had been walking alongside the truck and kept us easily. The back wheel of the truck passed over the boy across the groin when the other boys cried to the driver to stop, who intent upon the road, had not known of the tragic accident. Within ten minutes, Mr. Chase Rich of Pingree, Idaho, drove by and helped load the injured boy in his car to take him to the hospital in Jackson about twelve miles distant. Mr. Jensen phoned ahead there to the doctor who met the party on the road but Earl died just as they drove into the hospital about forty minutes after the accident. Members of the Henrie family were apprised here late Saturday afternoon of the tragedy and arrangements were made to meet the body in Salt Lake City. No blame attaches to any member of the party in this fatal accident as it was entirely accidental and unavoidable. Funeral services were held in Delta on Tuesday afternoon in the Delta Second Ward under the direction of Bishop Stephenson. The speakers were Bishop L. L. Lyman, Dewane Jensen, Horace Cutler of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Henrie's brother; Stake President Finlinson, Bishop Terry and closing remarks by Bishop Stephenson. Interment was in the Delta cemetery with the dedicatory prayer by Willis Savage. Earl was a member of the Sophomore class of the Delta High School this year and a good student with an excellent record. It seemed he had the abilities and strength of character to make a fine man and citizen and the entire community extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. Earl is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Arte Henderson, Cutler, Fondd, Varlo, Mrs. Rayda Rawlinson, Kyle, Ward and Nina.
