MR. RUFFIN

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Mr. Larry Wayne Ruffin Sr., 67, of Acworth died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett.

Mr. Ruffin is survived by his son, Larry Wayne (Butch) Ruffin Jr. of Marietta, Ga.; his daughter, Regina Ann Ruffin of Marietta; his brother, Roy Ruffin of Lanett; his sister-in-law, Pauline Ruffin of Lanett; his former wife, Marty Ruffin Gardner of Marietta; and two nieces, Sandra Ruffin Flowers of Maryland and Paula Ruffin Heath of North Carolina.

Born March 7, 1933, Mr. Ruffin was a football star and 1951 graduate of West Point High School. He attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship and was one of the outstanding football players at Georgia Tech in the mid-1950s under the leadership of Coach Bobby Dodd. He was associated with Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Georgia Tech. After graduation from Georgia Tech, Ruffin played professional football in Montreal, Canada for the Alouettes. His degree from Georgia Tech was in engineering and he was regional manager for Sandvik Steel Co. until his retirement in 1995. His territory was the southeast section of the United States. He was the son of the late Eula Clyde Toney Ruffin and Johnny Jackson Ruffin. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George Washington Ruffin and Nancy Elizabeth Ledford Ruffin, and his maternal grandparents, B.H. Toney and Eula Prince Toney.

Viewing hours will be Saturday, Oct. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hay-Gantt Funeral Home, 1010 Roswell St. in Marietta.
