Mrs. W. R. Wilbourn Died Saturday Afternoon

Mrs. Edna Jane Wilbourn died Saturday afternoon, March 22, 1913 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George W. Bare in Lexington, after an illness of several months from complications incident to advancing age in her 78th year.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Presbyterian church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Dr. Alfred T. Graham, who was assisted by Rev. Dr. Charles Manly of the Baptist church. Interment was made in the Lexington cemetery.

Mrs. Wilbourn was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Fannie Turner Chittum and was born in Lexington June 19, 1835. She was married to Mr. William R. Wilbourn of Granville, NC, August 14, 1851, and they located in Brownsburg to live, where they made their home until 1878, when they moved to Lexington, where the remainder of their days were spent. Mr. Wilbourn died about eight years ago. He served in the Mexican War.

Of eleven children, seven survive, as follows: Messer. Henry Wilbourn of Johnson City, Tenn., Samuel M. Wilbourn of Buena Vista, Emory R. Wilbourn of Roanoke, Alfred W. Wilbourn of Saltville, Mrs. Fannie Miller, wife of Mr. C. S. Miller of Shepherdstown, W. VA, Mrs. Dore Bare, wife of Mr. Geo. W. Bare of Lexington, Mrs. Lydia Newman, wife of Mr. Charles K. Newman of Mineral, Va., Mrs. Wilbourn is survived by five brothers and two sisters, as follows: Messrs. W. T. Chittum of Raphine, James A. Chittum of Richmond, John J. Chittum of Staunton, Charles H. Chittum of Lexington, Robert G. Chittum of Covington, Mrs. Mary E. Dull of Roanoke, and Mrs. Fannie V. Oliver of Fincastle.

Mrs. Wilbourn was possessed of an attractive disposition and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
