Obituary:
OLD PIONEER PASSES TO LAST RESTING PLACE
Yesterday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock Aaron V. Bradt, one of the pioneers of Valley county, passed peacefully away at his home in Ord.
Mr. Bradt was born in Montgomery County, N.Y. October 17, 1835, where his younger life was spent. But the westward spirit seized him and as early as 1872 he came to Valley county, where his home has been since.
He first settled in the edge of Valley county east of North Loup where he won the hand of Miss Harlow, to whom he was married on March 31, 1874. Being unable to find a magistrate or other authorized person at that time in Valley county to perform the marriage ceremony, the event was solemnized in Greeley county, that being the first marriage in Greeley county.
Later on Mr. Bradt lived in Springdale and finally moved to Ord and engaged in the dray business. His health failing, he gradually turned the work over to his son James who has had practical charge for the past ten years.
Last winter the old man contracted a severe cold and had not been able to rally, growing gradually weaker till the end. But till the last few weeks he was active in mind.
His death removes a man who possessed many sterling qualities. He was an honorable man in all his dealings, industrious and kind.
The body will be laid to rest tomorrow, the funeral being held from the Methodist chruch at 2:00 o'clock.
He leaves a wife and eight children. He was among those who responded to his country's call in its dark days and was a member of Foote Post No. 40.
