James L. Wilcoxon, 82, of Taylorville died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

He was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Sherman, the son of Ralph Edward and Martha Boone Underwood Wilcoxon. He married Helen Humphrey in 1946 in Springfield.

Mr. Wilcoxon was a U.S. Navy veteran. He farmed and was an electrician at Sangamo Electric Co. for 28 years and DICKEY-john in Auburn for eight years. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Taylorville, Christian County Farm Bureau and Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of Masonic Lodge 635 in Rochester. He was a 4-H leader in Cotton Hill Township for 15 years and served as Cotton Hill Township clerk.

Survivors: wife, Helen; two sons, Mark Wilcoxon of San Diego and Art Wilcoxon of Salida, Colo.; two daughters, Louise (husband, Kent) Templin of Effingham and Laura Neal of Taylorville; five grandchildren; brother, Nate (wife, Carol) Wilcoxon of Rochester; sister, Nettie Jean Edwards of Springfield; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Services: Shafer Funeral Home, Taylorville, the Rev. Bill Frazier officiating.
