He was born in Butts County, GA May 26, 1929 one of ten children of William Troy Pelt and Florence Elizabeth Chastain Pelt. He was a graduate of Jackson High School. He was employed by the Southern Railroad for over 30 years, retiring as Yardmaster. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Jackson. He was married to Mildred Lunceford Pelt for over 50 years at her death, March 20, 2001.
Survivors include his children, David and Barbara Pelt, Jackson, GA, Denise and Richard Gower, Snellville, GA, Donna and Gary Drews, Greer, SC, and Douglas Pelt, Panama City Beach, FL; grandchildren, Tony and Chandra Pelt, Steven Gower, Teresa and Tommy Viar, Kevin Gower, Kimberly Garner, Denille Pelt, Brain Drews and Cory Drews; great grandchildren, Andrea Garner, Mikayla Pelt, Bethany Viar, Ciara Viar and Samantha Pelt; sisters, Alma McElheney, Lyda Stephens, Margaret Tomberlin and Leila Smith; brothers, Emmett Pelt and Sammy Pelt and many nieces and nephews. Other than his parents and wife, he was predeceased in death by his granddaughter, Angela Pelt, sisters, Nellie Kimbell and Emily Jones and brother, Ernest Pelt.
