Judge at Billy the Kid's trial for the murder. Warren Bristol was born in Stafford,Genesee County New York on March 19, 1823 the son of Dr. Burrage Bristol and Sarah Benham. His wife was Louisa C Armstrong they were married on April 20, 1854. He became a district attorney of Goodhue County, Minnesota in 1854. In 1864 he was a member of the national convention in Baltimore, which renominated Abraham Lincoln for the presidency.Warren Bristol was elected to three terms in the Minnesota legislature, 1866-70, one term in the House and two in the Senate. In April 1872 he received his appointment by President Ulysses S. Grant as an Associate Justice of the New Mexico Territorial Supreme Court. He served as the judge for over 12 years and for most of the court milestones in the Lincoln County War. He was the Judge at Billy the Kid's trial for the murder of Sheriff William Brady and sentenced the Kid to death by hanging. Judge Bristol died on January 12, 1890, and the town of Deming shut down for his funeral. Eventually his widow, Louisa returned him (and herself) to Lockport, New York where he is buried in a family plot in Cold Springs Cemetery,
