Probably the son of Zebulon Deming.

In 1904 Judson Keith Deming pub. Descendants of John Deming of Wethersfield, Conn. in which Appendix B (p. 563) is titled Descendants of John Deming of Unadilla, NY. As stated by the author but rearranged for clarity:

"John Deming, b. in 1760 [at] Wethersfield, Conn.; d. 22 May 1837 [at] Unadilla, NY; married Anne Holliday [sic Halliday], dau. of ___ and Sarah (Owen) Holliday, born in 1761; died in 1845.

John Deming was a jeweler by trade, and lived for a time in Amsterdam, NY, and later in Middlefield, NY. He finally settled in the vicinity of Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY, where he died, and was buried with his wife [at] Mt. Upton cemetery. He was a man of small stature, while his wife was a woman of unusually large size. She was a school teacher before her marriage.

According to tradition John Deming was a soldier of the Revolution, and the family record that he was born in Wethersfield, Conn, indicates that he was a descendant of John Deming the Settler, but, among the many persons of this name, it has been impossible to determine the connection. It is said that he had six brothers, including Thomas, and David, and that the family lived at one time in Litchfield county, Conn."

John Deming has a lengthy Rev. War pension file that includes the date and place of his marriage [by Rev. John Camp, Dec. 22, 1785 at the Canaan, Columbia, NY Presby. Ch.] and from which can be discerned he had at least two brothers and one sister, each who directly or indirectly provided affidavits regarding John's pension application: brother Zebulon Deming of Italy, Yates, NY and brother David Deming of Butternuts, Otsego, NY. His sister was Anna Deming Hoyt of Perth, Fulton, NY, wife of Solomon Hoyt, latter who died testate at Amsterdam, NY just south across the Fulton/Montgomery county line from Perth.

Anna (Deming) Hoyt's memorial infers she was b. circa 1767 and states she was the dau. of Zebulon Deming. By process of elimination the only unaccounted for Zebulon Deming from Connecticut is the s. of Josiah Deming and Prudence Steele, b. of record Oct. 25, 1719. But Judson Deming provides no further information regarding him. In addition, Zebulon, s. of Josiah and Prudence (Steele) Deming of Wethersfield, is not included as a named child or legatee of his father's July 30, 1761 will at Wethersfield.

According to Judson Deming, John Deming and Anna Halliday had seven children: daughters Nancy, Wealthy, Polly and Lucinda, and sons Josiah, John Jr and David.
