Death resulted from pneumonia after a week's illness. He was 83 years, 4 months and 14 days old. In younger years he was a farmer and also a carpenter; he also carried on the undertaker business for a number of years, but for the past ten years he has lived retired. His wife died five years ago. His funeral took place on Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at the house, with interment at the Emanuel's Lutheran cemetery at Brickerville. Rev. A. W. Leibensperger, of Lititz, officiated."
Israel Zartman was 45 when he faced the Civil War draft in the fall of 1862. A substitute, Abraham Shreiner, agreed to serve in his place.
