Passes Away After Long Illness at Home

Walter Clyde Jones, well known Chicago attorney, who for years was active in Illinois Republican politics and was a member of the state senate from 1906 to 1914, died yesterday in his home at 1637 Judson avenue, Evanston, after a long illness. Mr. Jones, who was a senior member of the law firm of Jones, Addington, Ames & Seibold, was 57 years old. He had been in ill health since the fall of 1926, following a number of operations. In 1912 Mr. Jones was a candidate for governor on the Progressive Republican ticket. He served as state senator from the 5th district. Counsel for Corporations Mr. Jones was born in Pilot Grove, Ia., on Dec. 27, 1870. He was graduated from the Chicago College of Law in 1895 and was admitted to the bar the same year. His practice in recent years dealt mostly with corporation and patent law and he was counsel for a number of large companies. He was vice president and director of the Benjamin Electric company of Chicago. Author of the direct primary law of Illinois and of the ten hour day law for women. Mr. Jones also was a leader in the movement for civil service reform and enactment of rules for reformed legislative procedure. He was the author of a number of books on the law. Among the many organizations of which he was a member are the Franklin institute of Philadelphia, the American Society of Engineers—he had been graduated an engineer before he became a lawyer—the Union league, Evanston Golf, Evanston Country, and Hamilton clubs.Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Emma Boyd Jones; two sons, Walter Clyde Jr., and Clarence, and a daughter, Helen Gwendolyn.
