Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Ruben P. Judd, Donansburg, that their son, Sergeant Ausbon Judd, who was reported missing in action 4 Apr 1945 has been declared officially dead. A letter form Major General Edward F. Witsell, adjutant general of the army, stated that Sergeant Judd had been a crew member of a B29 Superfortress which failed to return from a night bombing mission to an aircraft plant 20 miles west of Tokyo. His plane was last contacted when it took off from the base at Saipan. Because of darkness, there was no eyewitness accounts of the disappearance. General Witsell wrote, "I regret the necessity for this message but trust that the ending of a long period of uncertainty may give at least some small measure of consolation. I hope you may find sustaining comfort in the thought that the uncertainty with which has surrounded the absence of your son has enhanced the honor of his service to his country and of his sacrifice."
