MRS. W. S. KNIGHT IS DEAD
END COMES SUDDENLY TO FORMER CARTHAGE WOMAN

Passed Away at Her Home in Omaha This Morning - Likely to be Buried Here.

Mrs. W. S. Knight, for many years a resident of Carthage, died suddenly this morning at her home in Omaha. News of the death reached Carthage this morning in a telephone message from Mrs. D. M. Knight at Parkville, Missouri to her mother, Mrs. Robert Moore. D. M. Knight is a son of Mrs. W. S. Knight and had been summoned to Omaha by the news of his mother's sudden death.

Mrs. Knight was about 71 years of age. She was the widow of the late Dr. William S. Knight, for many years pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in this city and a man greatly beloved in Carthage. Her maiden name was Anna Mack and she was born in Carthage, Illinois. She was married to Dr. Knight in August in 1871. She came to Carthage, Missouri, with her husband in 1875 when he was called to the pastorate of the First Presbyterian Church here. They continued to reside here til 1893 when Dr. Knight resigned his pastorate to become president of Lindenwood College at St. Charles, Missouri. They remained at Lindenwood until 1900 when Dr. Knight gave up his work there to return to Carthage to become president of the Carthage Collegiate Institute an institution which he had been largely instrumental in founding.

Dr. Knight died here in Novenber, 1905. Mrs. Knight remained here for several years, but in about 1908 removed to Omaha where her daughters, Misses Augusta and Ella were located as teachers. There the family has since resided. Miss Ella Knight had just returned from taking a summer course for teachers in the east at the time of her mother's death and Miss Augusta Knight had gone to Colorado for a vacation trip.

Besides the three children above mentioned, Mrs. Knight is survived by a brother and a sister, both living in Carthage, Illinois. Mrs. Knight visited in Carthage a year ago the past summer, being a guest at the home of her friend, Mrs. W. J. Sewell. She was taken quite ill here and did not recover sufficiently to make the return journey home for several weeks.
Her daughter, Miss Ella Knight, was called here by her mother's illness at that time.

Mrs. Knight will be well remembered by the older residents of Carthage among whom will be deeply grieved to learn of her death. Nothing is known as yet as to the arrangements for the funeral, but it is presumed she will be brought here for burial beside the body of her husband who is buried in Park Cemetery.
