Alida graduated from Elmira Free Academy and then went on to Elmira College for 3 years before marrying Julain Lewis Watkins on July 2, 1921. She and Julian had three children, Wilbur, Tedrowe, and Sydney Lewis in the next four years.

Alida was a devoted wife and mother and excelled in the domestic arts. She loved to bake, especially brownies and Toll House cookies, and was a fine needle woman, sewing, embroidering, and needlepointing. She sewed many dresses for her daughter, granddaughters, and her granddaughters' dolls.

Her calm, upbeat personality made her a joy to be with. Her nickname was "Rosie" and that's exactly what she was. Her married monogram was AWW, Alida Wilbur Watkins or A Wonderful Woman, as her husband Julian often pointed out.
