Suzanne "Sue" (Whidden) Ward, 83, passed away on October 8, 2006, in Bozeman. She was born on September 17, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts to William Bush Whidden and Marian (Dix) Whidden. Suanne's father died from a diving accident when she was 11, and as a result she and her siblings spent their youth with her mother and grandparents in Hingham, Massachusetts and Chapoquoit, Massachusetts. She graduated from the Emma Willard School for Girls in Troy, New York and made her debut as a Boston debutante. Suzanne traveled west with her mother and family, marrying cowboy Homer Cook from Livingston. They had a daughter, Susan W. Cook. Homer Willis Cook was killed on October 18, 1945 in Madison Square Garden, New York, due to injuries from a fall from a bucking horse during the rodeo.

Suzanne then married Robert T. (Ted) Ward in New York City in 1947. They were married 51 years. Together they built the 47 Ranch on Brackett Creek, Clyde Park.

Suzanne enjoyed riding and ranching life. She was interested in gardening, reading, golf and politics. She was a volunteer in Mrs. Williamson's, Hawthorne first grade class and the Museum of the Rockies, both in Bozeman. Suzanne and Ted had two sons, Bill and Mike Ward. She adopted Charlotte Parsons in 2000.

Suzanne was a woman born before her time. She loved to fly and had her private, commercial and instrument pilot's license. She and Ted spent many happy hours flying all over the West and traveling all over the world. In her later years, she enjoyed the company of her grandsons, as drivers and friends. She never met a stranger. She had friends from all over the world and all walks of life.

We all miss the mischievous twinkle in her bright blue eyes!

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Bush Whidden and Marian (Dix) Whidden; sister, Jean (Whidden) Linderman; brother, Roger Sherman Whidden; and her husbands, Homer Willis Cook and Robert T. "Ted" Ward.

If friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter in Bozeman.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dokken Nelson Funeral Service in Bozeman.
