A lifetime resident of Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Gertrude Trimble Armstrong. Her husband of 48 years, Charles R. Medlar died in 2002.
Graduating from McCaskey, she was employed by the former Hager's Department Store - first as a secretary and later as Advertising Manager. After her retirement from Hager's in 1960, she later returned and worked in advertising until the store's final closing.
An exceptional housekeeper and excellent cook, Betty enjoyed gardening, flowers and beach vacations. She loved animals, particularly dogs. Accomplished at knitting, she provided 100 or more beautiful afghans to family and friends.
A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she also belonged to the Hager Group.
Surviving her is a sister, Ethel R., husband of Robert P. Long; a step-son, Charles R. Medlar, Jr., husband of Sally M. Medlar; nieces and nephews and their children.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, Jean and Mary and two brothers, Claude and Roy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Life Celebration funeral service from the Funeral Home of Fred F. Groff, Inc., 234 West Orange Street, Lancaster, PA on Saturday at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Margaret Kassees officiating. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
