Mrs. Celestia Beckstead passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. A. Vanderpool, at Council Bluffs Tuesday, May 22, 1928, after an illness of several weeks from old age and accompanying complications.
She was born in Louisa County, Iowa, July 22, 1839, and was 88 years and 9 months of age at the time of her death. Her parents were Canadian immigrants and settled in Louisa County in the early days. She was reared to young womanhood in these pioneer surroundings and suffered the hardships common to these people. Following her marriage, she came to Hamburg, where she had resided for the past sixty years. She was a pioneer of the community and had an active part in the early times of this country. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago.
She leaves to mourn her passing, four children. J. R. Manley, of Minnewaukan, North Dakota; Mrs. George Sollars, of St. Joseph; Mrs. P. A. Vanderpool of Council Bluffs; and Mrs. Homer Baker, of this place. She also leaves several grandchildren and a host of friends, who will indeed miss her presence among them.
The funeral cortage will leave the Johnson Funeral Parlors at 10 a.m., the (Thursday) morning and continue to Mount Zion church, where services will be conducted upon arrival. Rev. S. R. Overholser officiating. Interment in Mount Zion Cemetery.
